_Located on the central square of Ano Liosia, this project involved the adaptive reuse of a neoclassical building into a modern preschool and daycare center. The design sought to preserve the historic character of the structure while reimagining its spaces for safety, functionality, and child-centered creativity.
Every intervention followed strict safety and accessibility standards, ensuring a secure environment for infants and toddlers. All glazing surfaces were replaced with laminated safety glass, rounded edges and shock-absorbing materials were used throughout, and non-slip flooring and anti-bacterial coatings were applied to meet preschool regulations.
Natural light and soft colors enhance spatial comfort, while playful geometries subtly animate the neoclassical shell. The external ramp leading to the basement was closed off and repurposed, optimizing circulation and outdoor play areas without compromising structural integrity.
The result is a delicate balance between heritage and function — a space where the elegance of the past coexists with the safety, warmth, and imagination that define early childhood architecture.
